🎢 40-Year Roller Coaster

ˆA lifetime of ups and downs —and the moment I finally stepped off the ride.

For nearly four decades, my weight went up, down, and back again — always tied to life, stress, hormones, thyroid issues, and shifting routines. Ten pounds here, ten pounds there… until one day, I was 85 pounds overweight.


Nothing dramatic caused it — just real life taking its toll, little by little.


Along the way, I discovered:


  • When I ate sugar, I craved more.
  • When I avoided it for three days, the cravings disappeared.
  • Even small amount of sugar and processed foods left me achy and inflamed.

🌿 How I Stopped Starting Over

For 40 years, I navigated weight struggles, learned hard lessons, and spent thousands of dollars on programs that never delivered lasting results. I lost and regained weight more times than I can count.

Still, none of the nutrition courses, books, or diets I tried ever gave me what this plan finally did: steady weight loss, balanced meals that support the whole body, and simple supplements that become even more important as we age.

Alongside my health transformation, I’ve built a wide-ranging professional life centered on research, communication, coaching, and creating practical systems that help people move toward healthier, more stable lives.


I’m also a wife of 44 years, a mom, and “Grammy/MiMi” — roles that keep me grounded and remind me why health and energy matter so much.


I spent nearly a decade as a paralegal, developing the analytical skills and structural thinking that now shape this program. Later, I became a Certified Coach, helping individuals navigate challenges, build resilience, and create sustainable change.


I worked as a news writer, covering family and community issues — strengthening my research skills and my ability to communicate clearly. I led a nonprofit serving families in crisis, where I saw firsthand the power of support, compassion, and practical tools.


Across all these roles, one truth remained the same:
lasting change comes from clarity, structure, and compassion — not restriction.


I studied health, nutrition, inflammation, and behavior change for decades, including formal coursework. But I never found one system that brought everything together in a way that was simple, complete, and sustainable.


So eventually, I created my own.

Health isn’t just about weight — it’s about time.


In 2005, I lost my dad suddenly to a heart attack. Years later, my mom passed away after two major strokes, just months before my first grandson was born. She would have adored her great-grandsons.

Losing both parents reminded me of something profound:


If we ignore the warning signs, we lose years we can never get back.


Rebuilding my own health in my 60s — gaining energy, reducing inflammation, feeling stronger than I did in my 30s — taught me something else:

🌸 Where It All Began

In this photo, I’m 32 — raising kids, juggling life, and carrying 85 extra pounds.


As a child and teen, I never thought about my weight. My first 20-pound gain showed up during a stressful season in my late teens — and it disappeared once life steadied. For a while, things felt normal again.


But in my early twenties, life shifted in a way that changed everything.


At 23, I met my husband, we married, and I moved across the bay for his job. That move meant leaving the close-knit Marin County community where I grew up and began my adult life — lifelong friends, a strong social circle, an active lifestyle, and the routines that grounded me.


My new environment felt foreign and isolating. Making friends was hard at first. For the first time, I felt unsettled — and the loss of belonging had a quiet but powerful impact on my well-being.


Adulthood brought additional new layers:


  • Pregnancies and hormonal shifts
  • Thyroid problems
  • A growing list of responsibilities
  • Seasons of deep stress  

  

By 32, the weight had compounded.


I tried every fix. Sometimes the weight came off, but always at a cost — slowing my metabolism and straining my thyroid.


Then came the biggest setback of all.


In the early 1990s, I developed Multiple Chemical Sensitivity and spent four difficult years reacting to foods, fragrances, and chemicals. We moved multiple times searching for safe housing. Doctors had no answers.


I eventually recovered — against all odds — but the weight I lost during that illness wasn’t healthy loss. Some of it returned, leaving me 37 pounds from my goal.

⭐ Why Nothing Worked

For decades, I rode the roller coaster of losing and regaining. And eventually, I understood why nothing ever lasted.


Extreme diets left my metabolism fragile. Unless I logged every bite, the weight crept back. And when life got hard — as it often does — focusing on myself felt impossible.


I tried everything: Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig, South Beach, Atkins, Paleo, low-fat, low-carb, detoxes, the Zone Diet, DASH, Noom — even the Mediterranean diet itself. I cycled through fat-free, gluten-free, sugar-free, dairy-free, meat-free, high-protein, and low-protein plans. No wonder my body was in shock.


During research, I found a historical timeline of diet programs dating back to the 1920s. The conclusion?


“Get help from a medical professional.”


But my own doctor confirmed what research now shows: most medical professionals receive almost no training in nutrition. And the nutritionists I saw offered generic advice that didn’t address real life.


Their next recommendation?


“Fads don’t work.”


And finally — the biggest push:


Weight-loss medications.


But when I looked deeper, I discovered why: the very site offering those recommendations sold the medications.


And what concerned me most was this:  

Once people stop taking weight-loss drugs, the weight almost always returns — often quickly.


It’s not a sustainable solution, and the medical risks are real.


Some programs worked briefly.
Most weren’t sustainable.


None taught me how to support my body, reduce inflammation, or create stability and calm around food.

💥 The Breaking Point

A single snapshot captured more than regained weight — it captured a season when everything in my life felt unbearably heavy.


In 2022–2023, I joined Noom again. I logged every bite, avoided restaurants, and pushed through. I did lose 20 pounds…


But then my husband became seriously ill — so ill that doctors later told us he might not have survived if we hadn’t pushed for answers. I recognized symptoms that specialists missed, and advocating for him became a full-time fight.


Between caregiving, running my childcare business, and navigating endless crises, I was carrying more than I ever had.


And then I realized something else:


I was in no physical shape to keep going like this. I needed strength, stamina, and real health — not just for him, but for my kids, my grandkids, and the children I care for every day.


I needed something completely different. Something that would make me feel vibrant, strong, healthy, and alive again — not another diet dragging me toward a “goal weight.”


I saw commercials for weight-loss shots, but I already knew: They aren’t a long-term solution. The weight returns. The risks are real. And it wasn’t the path I wanted for my life.


Then the scale delivered the blow: I had regained the exact same 20 pounds it took me two years to lose.


Around that same time, I saw a commercial from the very program I had paid nearly $2,000 to follow — now promoting weight-loss drugs as the answer. It was disheartening. And it was a turning point.


Something inside me shifted.


I knew another diet wasn’t going to save me.
I needed a path that worked in the chaos of real life.


That morning became my turning point.


I told myself:
If it doesn’t exist… I’ll create it.


And something else changed, too. For the first time in 40 years, my husband supported my efforts wholeheartedly — not because I was restricting or miserable, but because he saw hope in me. He saw life coming back into me.
